1. China – the biggest steel producer in the world
Since 2016 China has surpassed all goals and reached 808.4 metric tons of steel productions.
The country were able to provide a better pricing and productions rates comparing to US and India, becoming the largest steel producer in the world.
Most of the companies are state-owned and state-run. Hesteel Group and Baosteel Group are the biggest steel processors and cater to the global market.

India is the 14th largest exporter of cruse steel and had a huge growth of 75% in exports in the last years to Nepal, Belgium and Bangladesh.
3. Japan – exporter of sophisticated and high-grade steel

5. Russia
The last and fifth biggest steel producer is Russia, that had a drop in 2014 and slowed down gradual reduction until 2016 at 68 million metric tons production in the year.
Russia keep the ground as the third largest exporter, increasing 22% since 2011 mainly to Turkey, Taiwan and Mexico. The biggest companies are Novolipetsk Steel, Evraz Group and Severstal JSC.
