Prime or Second-choice Steel: which one should I use?

Prime and second-choice steel

When dealing with prime and second-choice steel, we always have opportunities to talk with the final customers of the products and know where they will be used.

Those moments are fantastic to see how managers can organize their projects to have the lowest cost as possible, keeping up the deadlines and quality at the end.

Secondary Steel: a good choice for low budgets

Many workers have a trust issue with second-choice steel. Probably because it does not look so good, causes the feeling that those products will fail and turn into problems, but that’s not true.

To be considered “secondary”, a small defect is enough. But that does not mean that it’s not usable.

Second-choice Rebars: a good example

As they can end up getting rust or dents during transportation, sometimes are not used. But if you think about it, they probably will be covered by cement, so what’s the problem of being rust?

Notice: when talking about construction, ensure that the products fit all the project needs and specifications.

And that works for many other steel products: second-choice coils, profiles, tubes, plates and more.

Prime Steel: when high-end quality is a priority

Well, none of us would like to fly on a brand-new airplane that came with a rusty wing, right? So at this moments, prime steel products are the smartest alternative.

Another advantage of using Prime Steel are certificates and documents. To be considered “prime”, it will probably come with some kind of documentation of laboratory tests, engineering recommendations, quality insurance, and others.

Of course, there is always a price to pay for high-quality. Prime and Second-choice Steel products can have up to 100% on the price difference for the same amount of steel.
